Position Overview:

The Graduation and Postsecondary Readiness Counselor at Los Puentes Charter School is dedicated to preparing students for their postsecondary endeavors, assisting with credit recovery, and ensuring students stay on track for timely graduation. This role involves providing guidance, resources, and support to help students navigate their academic journeys and plan for future success.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Postsecondary Preparation:

- Guide students in exploring postsecondary options, including college, vocational training, and career opportunities.

- Assist students with the college application process, including application forms, essays, financial aid, and scholarships.

- Organize and conduct workshops, seminars, and informational sessions on postsecondary planning and preparation.

2. Credit Recovery:

- Identify students who are at risk of falling behind in credits and develop individualized credit recovery plans.

- Monitor and support students enrolled in credit recovery programs to ensure they meet graduation requirements.

- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to provide resources and interventions for credit recovery.

3. Academic Counseling and Support:

- Provide academic counseling to students to help them set and achieve their educational goals.

- Develop and implement strategies to keep students on track for on-time graduation.

- Monitor student progress and conduct regular check-ins to address academic challenges and provide support.

4. Career Counseling and Readiness:

- Assist students in identifying career interests and aptitudes through assessments and counseling.

- Provide resources and guidance on job search strategies, resume writing, and interview preparation.

- Develop partnerships with local businesses and organizations to create internship and job shadowing opportunities for students.

5. Family and Community Engagement:

- Engage with families to provide information and support on postsecondary planning and academic progress.

- Conduct parent workshops and meetings to discuss graduation requirements, credit recovery, and postsecondary options.

- Collaborate with community organizations to provide additional resources and support for students and families.

6. Data Management and Reporting:

-NMPED School Counselor License

- Maintain accurate records of student progress, credit recovery, and postsecondary planning activities, in collaboration with the school registrar.

- Prepare and present reports on student outcomes, including graduation rates and postsecondary enrollment.

- Use data to inform and improve counseling programs and interventions.

Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in School Counseling, Education, or a related field.

- Valid state certification as a school counselor.

- Experience in academic counseling, postsecondary planning, and credit recovery programs.

- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to work collaboratively with students, families, staff, and community partners.

- Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all students
