POSITION: Guidance Counselor for Grades PreK-6
BUILDING(S) Smith Elementary/Heritage School
STARTING DATE: 2025-2026 School Year
REPORTS TO: Building Principals
RATE OF PAY: Per SEA Contract
GOAL:
Provide a comprehensive guidance program meeting the needs of pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students promoting academic, personal and social development while supporting building administration in operations to further benefit all students.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1) Licensed master’s level professional counselor degree
2) Successful teaching experience and previous guidance counseling experience preferred.
3) Experience in personal counseling, crisis counseling and career planning.
4) Demonstrate competence in multicultural counseling and a desire to increase skills in the areas of diversity and equity.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Provide behavioral counseling and support as needed
2) Select topics and resources consistent with building identified objectives.
3) Plan and organize activities to support students’ transition to the Jr High School.
4) Assist students with developing educational goals.
5) Provide school-to-career guidance activities using resources.
6) Follows policies, procedures, and all other ethical practices and requirements while working with students.
7) Remain up-to-date with current professional trends.
8) Assist with building of the master schedule and entering student schedules into PowerSchool.
9) Work in conjunction with students and staff in support of at risk advising and peer mediation.
10) Assist with Student Success Team meetings for students
11) Conduct developmental guidance lessons in the classroom and in large groups.
12) Facilitate the integration of the guidance curriculum into the educational curriculum.
13) Collaborate with parents/guardians, students, and staff to facilitate student success.
14) Punctual, reliable and predictable attendance is required
15) Other duties as assigned.
