JOB SUMMARY

Working in conjunction with the ICU Nurse Director, the Clinical Supervisor assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and collaborates with other departments to ensure excellence in patient and family care reflective of CCMH mission, vision and values.  Assists in the planning, direction, organization and leadership of departmental services.  The clinical supervisor practices within the framework of the Wyoming Nurse Practice Act and American Nurses Association (ANA) professional standards and the guidelines of the department’s nursing specialty organizations.

PRIMARY JOB DUTIES

  • Meets all of the job requirements of a Registered Nurse.
  • Ensures staff accountability in implementing the nursing process (assessment, implementation and updating plan of care, performing interventions, providing patient and family education, and evaluation of outcomes).
  • Reviews and adjusts staffing levels each shift per department guidelines and as census changes, to ensure that safe and cost-effective staffing levels are maintained. Collaborates with Hospital Supervisor to meet staffing needs throughout organization. 
  • Rounds on all patients to ensure that service expectations (hourly rounding, bedside shift report, AIDET) are met, and develops action plan to address patient concerns.
  • Provides oversight of day-to-day processes and expectations (e.g. report and handoffs, dashboard indicators, care planning, patient safety initiatives, physician rounding) and reports to Director as needed.
  • Ensures healthy team environment by role-modeling, participating in patient care and re-directing staff as needed to meet patient needs and support fellow team members.
  • Models and fosters customer service excellence utilizing AIDET.
  • Shares in the responsibility of unit staffing as needs dictate and monitors delivery of unit patient care.
  • Collaborates in development and achievement of departmental goals and objectives.
  • Participates in development of departmental policies and procedures and monitors compliance with standards of clinical practice.
  • Assists with the hiring and evaluation of employees.
  • Assists in the development of department budget and maintains fiscal compliance.
  • Evaluates new procedures and equipment for the department.
  • Responsible for planning and assists with implementation of departmental training, including orientation, competency assessment, mentoring, coaching and evaluation. 
  • Collaborates and participates in the development and oversight of the departmental QI process and plan (e.g., chart reviews, department-specific QI, Core Measures).
  • Collaborates with physicians and other health care members in communicating the plan of care and anticipated outcomes for the patient. 
  • Assists with development and implementation of departmental strategic plan. 
  • Covers in Director’s absence.
  • Adheres to CCMH policies and procedures.
  • Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing, BSN encouraged.
  • Licensure
    • Current Wyoming Nursing license.
  • Certifications required
    • See Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification Policy and Certifications/Education Requirements Policy.
  • Experience
    • 5 years of experience in ICU or previous experience in related clinical area with supervisory responsibility.
