Summary :

The Point of Care Testing Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, training and maintain the laboratory’s point of care testing program. Ensures the accuracy of test results, and respectfully addresses situations or decisions to ensure patient concerns and needs are met. Demonstrates professional relationships with patients, families, colleagues, and providers.

Job Description:

Key Accountabilities

  • Oversees, provides guidance and ensures implementation of test systems.
  • Ensures training of testing personnel as needed to comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintains regulatory compliance with CLIA, Joint Commission, and CAP standards in collaboration with the quality management department and laboratory leaders.
  • Oversees testing personnel in developing, evaluating, and maintain test procedures.
  • Provide guidance in the development and the implementation of competency assessments for testing personnel.
  • Manages and reviews all proficiency testing.
  • Coordinates validation and verification testing on all new point of care equipment.
  • Assists key point of care personnel with troubleshooting instruments and other testing issues.
  • Develops and implements quality improvement initiatives.
  • Performs periodic audits of quality control records and recommends and implements corrective action as appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in accredited program
  • Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a laboratory environment or Point of Care Coordinator role is required.
  • Certifications: One of the following certifications:
    • American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) – Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
    • National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA) – Medical Technologist (MT) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
    • American Medical Technologists (AMT) – Medical Technologist (MT)

Physical Demands

  • Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of fifty (50) pounds without assistance
  • Job classification is exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties

Work Environment

Clinical, Patient Facing:

  • Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
  • Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.
  • Occasional high noise level in work environment.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents.
  • Occasional contact with aggressive and or combative patients.
