Essential functions (job duties):

Position Description:
  • Responsible for representingand promoting Wayne State University within in a defined travel recruitmentterritory. Recruitment travel includes attending high school visits, collegefairs, community college events, professional conferences, community engagementevents and alumni activities.
  • Prepare reportson applicants, admits and enrollments for assigned recruitment territory.
  • Meet with prospectivestudents and their parents and provide academic, career and admissions advice.
  • Review admissionapplications and render admission decisions. Respond to requests for information.
  • Plan, organize,implement and participate in a wide range of recruitment and outreach programsfor both first-year and transfer students.
  • Demonstrateability to act as a liaison with other WSU units and high school and communitycollege officials, participate in meetings and work as a member of a team.

Essential Functions (Job Duties):
  • Respond tostudent telephone, mail, email inquiries and record communication interactionsthrough Customer relationship Management (CRM) and case management systems.
  • Responsiblefor meeting enrollment goals for a defined travel territory.
  • Meet withprospective and admitted students and provide admissions and enrollmentinformation during campus tour visits, during counselor on duty shifts and atadmissions recruitment and yield programs.
  • Attends campusrecruitment events including Information Sessions, Open Houses, AdmittedStudent Days, special group visit initiatives, Counselor outreach events andNew Student Orientation programs.
  • Assist universitySchools/Colleges and Departments with admissions presentations and tours of campus.
  • Reviews andevaluates applications for completion and admissions decisions.
  • Coordinatecampus recruitment programs designed to assist prospective first-year andtransfer students.
  • Plan and/orarrange onsite visits to high school and community colleges; provide campustours; host high schools and community college visitors; host individualappointments and conduct onsite admissions programs.
  • Acquireknowledge and understanding of Wayne State University academic programs andstudent services to educate prospective students and their families about theUniversity's strengths, and thereby enable success recruitment and enrollmentof new undergraduate students.
  • Keeps currenton trends in higher education, University wide developments and new programopportunities.
  • Interpret andenforce department and University policies, procedures and regulations tostudents, guidance counselors, parents and constituents.
  • Perform otherduties as assigned by the Senior Director of Undergraduate Admissions and/orthe Senior Associate Director of Undergraduate Admissions.

Unique duties:

This position requires recruitment to high schools and community colleges in a defined recruitment territory and other markets as assigned; with the ability to load and transport admissions materials, displays and other equipment. Some evening and weekend hours required, especially during recruitment travel seasons.
Qualifications:

  • Must have avalid driver's license and must be willing to use own vehicle, at certain timesfor travel, including work nights and weekends.
  • Graduationfrom an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree.
  • Master'sDegree required for University Counselor I.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Previous Admissions Office experience.
  • Contact involvement with high schools, community colleges,and other secondary institutions.
  • Program development, evaluation and reportingexperience.

Preferred qualifications:

Working knowledge of computer applications and industry-related systems.Willingness and ability to travel independently.Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.Ability to work well with the public, communicate effectively and project a positive image.Demonstrated public speaking skills and the ability to present the University in a positive way to diverse populations. Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and work collaboratively as part of a team.Proficiency in language other than English.
