About Job

Position Summary:

The peer support specialist is an individual who has personal/lived experience with mental health and is willing to share his/her personal experiences.

  • Must be in recovery from a diagnosed mental illness
  • Must be open minded and willing to share your recovery story publicly
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Must have effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must have a clear understanding of recovery from mental illness.
  • Must have the ability to work with individuals or groups.
  • Must have the ability to serve as a role model, showing by example that recovery ispossible.

Requirements:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Must complete a Mental Health Peer Support Provider training program approved by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.
