Job Description: Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA)

REPORTS TO: Director of Special Education

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

TERMS: 207 days. Salary is 207 days Teacher schedule (based on State Salary Matrix)

EVALUATION:

JOB GOALS:

  • To provide expertise in the development and implementation of behavior management plans and interventions; to conduct ongoing collection and analysis of behavior program data; and to provide professional development designed to positively impact staff approaches to behavior intervention and management in the education environment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) certification required.

  • Licensed or eligible for licensure as a Behavior Analyst in Alabama.

  • Master’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, or a related field. (preferred but not required)

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the school system rules, administrative procedures, local board policy, and state and federal rules and regulations.

  • Effective written and oral communication skills.

  • Knowledge of the Student Information and Record Management System

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school faculties.

  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast- paced, high-intensive work environment.

  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures for working with special needs students.

Essential Functions:

  • Works directly with students, families, and educators to achieve academic, social, and emotional goals by performing behavioral assessments, collecting and analyzing data, developing interventions, and establishing behavior management plans based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.

  • Attends Individual Education Program (IEP) meetings and collaborates with IEP team members for the purpose of evaluation, recommending, and implementing appropriate IEP goals, accommodations, treatments, and services for each student.

  • Designs, implements, and monitors behavior management plans; models behavior program strategies, including social stories, peer facilitation, and peer training; and oversees the implementation of behavior programs by teacher and other staff.

  • Confers with teachers to develop and administer specialized functional behavioral assessments and management plans according to established IEP guidelines and actively participates in behavior intervention meetings.

  • Develops and conducts professional development presentations and consultations for teachers, administrators, and other staff in order to train on behavior management techniques, student progress monitoring, data collection methods, and other identified needs related to behaviorally challenged students based on the principles of applied behavior analysis.

  • Coordinates and provides relevant training and services for teachers and other staff, including but not limited to crisis intervention, physical restraint, etc.

  • Facilitates data collection and analysis with teachers and other staff to assist in developing methods for monitoring student progress.

  • Observes students within the education environment, analyzes ongoing progress and response to behavioral management plans, and works with students, teachers, and parents to promote a positive approach to conducting interventions and modifying plans as necessary.

  • Maintains effective working relationships and consults with medical professionals and other outside agencies that provide essential services to the Special Education department and students with mental illnesses and behavioral disorders.


This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Scottsboro City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Scottsboro City Schools.

Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.

Background Check Required: (Ala. Code §§ 16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks must not be more than 10 years old.
