About Job

The Department of Psychiatry, Western Michigan University Homer Stryker M.D. School of Medicine (WMed) seeks a board eligible or board-certified psychiatrist to join its growing academic department, which employs 18 full time faculty members. The psychiatry residency program is a fully accredited program, currently with 24 residents (6 per year with accreditation up to 8 per year). WMed is looking to expand and enhance psychiatric clinical services, research, and both resident and medical student training. There are significant clinical and research collaborations with Integrated Services of Kalamazoo (ISK), Southwest Michigan Behavioral Health (SWMBH), Battle Creek Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VA), Kalamazoo State Psychiatric Hospital, Community Healing Centers of Kalamazoo, and the Great Lakes Center for Autism as well as other community organizations/agencies.

WMed Psychiatry is practicing the “Collaborative Care Model” (CoCM) with Bronson Healthcare and anticipating continued growth in the primary care practices of Family Medicine, Pediatrics as well as OB/GYN.

The Department of Psychiatry is experiencing tremendous growth within our clinical footprint and community collaborations, our scholarly work and research output, as well as our expanding education programs. The incoming candidate will benefit from growing possibilities and additional leadership opportunities within the department.

The department provides consultation liaison services at the 353-bed at Ascension Borgess Hospital, in Kalamazoo. Services are provided by 2 faculty psychiatrists and 2 psychiatry residents along with an advanced practice professional.

Resident rotations in emergency psychiatry have been streamlined.  The Consult-Liaison/Emergency Psychiatrist, in collaboration with the WMed Department Chair, will be charged with identifying areas of improvement and implementing initiatives to continue our strategic growth in order to ensure an outstanding academic Consult-Liaison/emergency psychiatry program which sets the standard for patient care in the region.
