Position Overview

The University of Kansas Student Senate is the primary advocate for students on campus. As one of higher education's finest models of self-governance, 65 senators and 10 executive staff members work together to allocate about $25 million in student fees in ways that best serve students. Student Senate also represents the KU student voice within University, State, and National Governance, working to address and develop policy in students' best interests.

Job Description

30% - Responsible for formulating and coordinating a Student Senate Outreach Plan for the academic year.

20% - Develop programs to expand the role of the Student Senate throughout the University, including reaching out to and meeting with undergraduate and graduate student organizations, colleges, offices, services, and programs that exist on KU’s campus.

20% - Tabling at least four times per semester at the Kansas Union, Wescoe Beach, or other relevant locations.

15% - Creating flyers, posters, social media posts, and other promotional materials in coordination with the Public Relations Director to increase awareness of the Student Senate.

15% - Coordinate one event a year with the Center for Community Outreach and Student Union Activities, respectively, to promote partnership between Union organizations.

Required Qualifications

  • During the semester term of the appointment, the student hourly must be enrolled in no fewer than 6 credit hours. For summer periods the student hourly must: (1) have been enrolled in no less than 6 hours in the past spring semester or (2) be pre-enrolled in the upcoming fall semester in no less than 6 hours or (3) be enrolled in summer session or (4) be admitted to study in the upcoming fall semester. Student Hourlies may be undergraduate or graduate students. (Exceptions granted for GRA/GTA/GA appointments DO NOT apply to Student Hourly appointments).

  • Previous experience with Student Senate.

  • Student employees are not eligible for remote work arrangements unless an exception is approved by the unit leadership and HR.
  • This is an hourly/non-exempt position. A student employee cannot hold an hourly/non-exempt position and a salaried/exempt graduate or undergraduate position (GRA/GTA/GA/RUA/RGA) concurrently.
