SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Under the direction and supervision of the Director of Clinic Operations, the CASAC Counselor will provide comprehensive and compassionate outpatient treatment services to young adults, adults, and families/significant others enrolled in the Outpatient 822- Substance Use Program. The program also holds a gambling designation. The CASAC Counselor will provide counseling/advocacy services to an assigned caseload and participate as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team to facilitate client recovery. Work with clients in individual and evidence-based group counseling sessions on issues surrounding chemical use and dependency and/or gambling treatment.


Essential Job Duties:

  • Provide counseling services to assigned client’s caseload.
  • Conduct intakes, psychosocial assessments, DWI and gambling screenings and assessments.
  • Completes necessary documentation as part of the admission process, including treatment plan and progress note.
  • Provide individual mental health, relapse prevention, harm reduction, gambling treatment, and substance abuse counseling based on motivational interviewing and Trauma-Informed Care.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete client record, utilizing program-specific documentation templates, and enter client data in a timely fashion in program-related databases (OASAS).
  • Complete progress notes within 24hours of service delivery.
  • Conduct individual, family, group, and crisis counseling sessions.
  • Involve family and significant others in the client's treatment with the care team and collaborate effectively with the client's support system and community partners involved in the client's wellbeing (Court, Parole, Probation, ACS, EAP, etc.).
  • Make appropriate referrals for services as necessary, including but not limited to coordination of client care with Health Homes for eligible clients and alternative services, e.g. detox, rehab, residential, etc.
  • Assist with coordinating treatment with other community providers as required. Outreach as needed.
  • Timely and properly complete documentation in accordance with OASAS regulations, including timely submission of PAS-44, 45 and 48. Complete PAS44G and PAS45G, as applicable.
  • Monitor client milestones/progress and work with clients on discharge planning and referral(s).
  • Maintain communication and teamwork with clinical staff to integrate and enhance clinical services.
  • Conducts toxicology testing, as needed.
  • Adhere to the requirements of the Justice Center related to being a Mandated Reporter and take appropriate course of action to notify the Justice Center and supervisory staff at BPC.
  • Participate in quality assurance and Incident Review Committee (IRC), as needed.
  • Actively participate in individual and/or team supervision and staff meetings.
  • Address all failed claims and failed activities within 24 hours of notice.
  • Work closely with the leadership. Represent the organization at events, forums, meetings, etc.
  • Attend necessary trainings and in-service to remain abreast of best practices in addiction treatment and care.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills necessary to interpret age-appropriate response to client service/treatment plan.
  • Meet productivity requirements.
  • Provide staff coverage as needed.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Credentialed Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Counselor (CASAC). CASAC-T considered but must obtain credential within 12-months of hire.
  • High School Diploma or GED required. BA/BS/BSW strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 3-years SUD counseling experience required.
  • Minimum of 2-years of Gambling treatment, preferred.
  • Must complete the OASAS Clinical Screening and Assessment of the Impaired Driving Offender training within 2 months of hire.
  • Must have an OASAS Gambling credential or the required 60 hours of training to meet the criteria to assess, screen, and/or treat. Otherwise, must obtain within 2 months of hire. Agency will provide guidance and support on the necessary steps.
  • Exceptional oral/written communication in English, bilingual a plus
  • Ability to navigate the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Knowledge of OASAS Portal and STARS, preferred.
  • Experience understanding various evidence-based models theories pertaining to motivational interviewing, stage-wise approach to treatment of substance use and serious mental illness. Highly organized and self-motivated.
  • Must be proficient in the Twelve Core Functions and Harm reduction model.
  • Commitment to providing quality services and outcome-driven performance.
  • Maintain professional therapeutic relationship with assigned client caseload.


Schedule: 19 hours per week
