Fremont School District 79 is seeking a School Psychologist for the 2025-2026 school year.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal/Executive Director of Student Services

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a School Psychologist endorsement
  • Completion of a Specialist-level degree program in School Psychology (minimum of 60 graduate credit hours)

POSITION SUMMARY:

The School Psychologist assesses, diagnoses, and collaboratively develops intervention plans for students exhibiting academic challenges and/or social-emotional and behavioral concerns, fostering their success within the educational environment.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Consultation

  • Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and families to develop effective solutions for academic, behavioral, and social challenges
  • Support school staff in understanding child development and its impact on learning and behavior
  • Strengthen partnerships between schools, families, and community service providers

Evaluation

  • Conduct comprehensive psychoeducational evaluations to determine eligibility for special education and related services
  • Assess students’ cognitive, academic, social-emotional, and behavioral functioning
  • Observe and evaluate learning environments to identify potential barriers to student success

Intervention

  • Provide individual and group counseling to support students’ mental health and school adjustment
  • Develop and implement evidence-based interventions for academic and behavioral concerns
  • Offer training in social skills, conflict resolution, and emotional regulation
  • Support families and school staff during crises (e.g., loss, trauma, major life events)

Prevention

  • Design and implement programs to support students at risk of academic failure
  • Promote equity, inclusivity, and a positive school climate through targeted initiatives
  • Collaborate with staff and external agencies to support student well-being
  • Build strong partnerships with families to foster healthy and supportive learning environments

Research and Planning

  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of academic and behavioral interventions
  • Identify and recommend research-based practices to improve instructional and support services
  • Contribute to data-informed decision-making processes at both the student and system levels

Other Duties

  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Executive Director of Student Services or the Building Principal
