Job Summary
Odyssey House Louisiana, Inc. is seeking a full-time Peer Support Specialist for the Prevention Program. The schedule is 8am-5pm including after hour training and weekend outreach is required. The Peer Support Specialist is responsible for delivering health education programs and community outreach to targeted communities through grant funded initiatives.

Responsibilities and Duties
It is the duty and responsibility of the Peer Support Specialist to:
  • deliver specialty support, psychoeducational services, and prevention education
and harm reduction services
  • ensure that 100% of enrolled participants participate in a minimum of one safer sex workshop, focusing on safer sex practices protect against HIV and hepatitis, including evidence-based education/prevention strategies, pre-exposure prophylaxis (prep) usage, and other safer sex strategies
  • establish that 100% of enrolled participants participate in weekly psychoeducation with topics including harm reduction, the dangers of sharing needles, overdose prevention and naloxone administration.
  • ensure that 100% of enrolled participants receive individual, evidence-based therapies including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused therapy in individual and group settings.
  • reduce the number of program participants reporting risk behaviors associated with mental health issues, opioid use, alcohol intoxication, or other substance use
  • assist in improving health outcomes and social connectedness for program participants
  • provide peer support services for individuals with mental health disorders or SUD/OUD/COD
  • collaborate with Service Integration Specialists and Case Managers to create individual treatment plans, mentoring, job and life skills coaching, and referrals to external networks
  • participate in outreach events as directed by program manager
  • attend training during normal business and after hours
  • perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills
Minimum qualifications include the following:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate preferred.
  • Customer service experience a plus
  • An understanding of our clients and the admit process for our clients.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
