We are actively seeking an experienced and compassionate Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) to join our dynamic mental health team in California. In this specialized role, you will deliver innovative psychiatric care and behavioral health treatment to a diverse patient base, with a special focus on homeless individuals suffering from Serious Mental Illnesses (SMI) and Substance Use Disorders (SUD). As a top-performing Nurse Practitioner (NP) in Psychiatry, your expertise in clinical assessment, treatment planning, and interdisciplinary collaboration will be key to transforming the lives of vulnerable and underserved populations.
Key Responsibilities
- Mental Health Assessment: Conduct in-depth psychiatric evaluations for homeless individuals, accurately diagnosing SMI and SUD while developing focused treatment pathways.
- Customized Treatment Plans: Create and implement individualized, evidence-based care plans that integrate medication management, cognitive behavioral therapy, and holistic therapeutic interventions to address complex psychiatric conditions.
- Patient & Family Education: Deliver clear, empathetic education on mental health conditions, treatment options, and preventive strategies—ensuring that patients and their families understand and effectively manage their care.
- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Work closely with family medicine physician, RNs, social workers, and community health teams to coordinate integrated care, enhancing outcomes for clients experiencing homelessness, SMI, and SUD.
- Documentation: Maintain precise, up-to-date patient records and documentation of all interactions in compliance with regulatory standards.
- Continuous Professional Growth: Stay current with advancements in PMHNP practices, mental health research, and evolving treatment methodologies, particularly those addressing challenges within underserved communities.
Essential Licenses & Certifications
- Valid California RN License: A current California Registered Nurse license is required.
- Advanced NP/PMHNP Certification: Must hold active Nurse Practitioner certification—preferably in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMHNP)—approved by the California Board of Registered Nursing.
- DEA Registration: Eligibility for registration with the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) is necessary for prescribing controlled substances in accordance with state protocols.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- Demonstrated expertise in psychiatric care, with deep clinical knowledge in assessing and treating SMI and SUD.
- Proven ability in designing and implementing individualized treatment plans in challenging, high-pressure environments.
