Essential Functions
- Assessment and Diagnosis: Conduct assessments, testing, and diagnostic examinations of students to identify learning or social interaction issues and recommend corrective measures to enhance learning.
- Casework Services: Provide casework services to students and parents to promote understanding and participation in addressing social issues that affect the educational experience.
- Behavior Management Plans: Assist students and staff in implementing behavior management plans tailored to individual needs.
- Coordination with Agencies: Collaborate with outside agencies, organizations, and institutions as needed to support student needs.
- Collaboration with Staff: Work with administrators and teaching staff to assess individual student abilities and familiarize them with available social work services.
- Dropout Prevention: Contribute to the school district's dropout prevention initiatives.
- Counseling Resource: Serve as a resource for students and parents, providing counseling that promotes personal growth, self-understanding, and behavioral management while acting as a liaison between home and school.
- Professional Development: Stay updated on current developments in education by attending seminars, workshops, or researching while maintaining professional relationships.
- Record-Keeping: Organize and maintain accurate records of student information for prospective colleges and employers in compliance with district procedures.
- Parental Involvement: Encourage parental involvement in their children's education and ensure effective communication between home and school.
- Teacher Support: Assist in orienting new teachers and provide in-service training on guidance practices.
- Resource Management: Select and requisition appropriate instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities
- Strong knowledge of social work principles, theories, testing methods, and proven behavior management techniques.
- Understanding of differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Proficiency in data information systems and data analysis for formulating action plans.
- Familiarity with applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to coordinate multiple tasks effectively.
- Strong communication skills for engaging effectively with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Commitment to self-evaluation for performance improvement and professional growth.
- Ability to establish cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders. Position PurposeProvide tailored advice and consultation to students, parents, administrators, and teaching staff to help overcome personal, emotional, familial, or social issues, thereby maximizing the students' learning experience.
Qualifications Profile
- Certification/License: IL certification as a school social worker is required (ISBE/ELIS).
- Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the assignment; degree in Social Work preferred.
- Experience: Previous successful experience in school social work at the appropriate grade level is preferred.
