Belhaven University, a Christian university committed to the ministry of integrating biblical truth and learning, is searching for a candidate to lead the Department of Social Work and Criminal Justice at the traditional undergraduate campus in Jackson, Mississippi. The candidate will also serve as the Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) Program Director. This is an open-rank, tenure-track position.

The Department of Social Work and Criminal Justice values strong partnerships within the community and within the university. Faculty are collaborative and collegial with other departments working together on instruction, community service, recruitment, and other projects. We have an active Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society Chapter, as well as a Social Services Club. We encourage students to engage in professional development, such as applying for internships and attending conferences.
The Department Chair manages the Bachelor of Social Work and Criminal Justice programs. Primary responsibility for the two major degree programs includes: accreditation, curriculum development, instruction, recruitment, and retention of BSW/CJU students, liaison between both programs, and other University Departments; and carrying out policies and procedures for the BSW program set forth by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

The ideal candidate will have responsibility for budget oversight and planning; articulate and implement university policy; course scheduling; hiring, recruiting, orienting, supporting, and evaluating qualified, mission-fit faculty to teach and advise in the BSW and CJU programs; ensuring the quality of teaching through a review of all course evaluations, and oversight of all faculty assignments; and a range of duties from curriculum development to strategic/operational planning for the BSW and CJU programs.

A Ph.D. or DSW in Social Work is required for this position. The successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview in one's teaching and academic discipline and fully support the University Vision, Mission, Statement of Faith and Commitment Statement (see links below).
In addition, the successful candidate must have the following: experience and mission fit; Doctoral Degree in Social Work; Social Work licensure (LCSW) with current/recent experience in the Social Work field; evidence of effective social work instruction and research supervision; ability to demonstrate leadership ability in higher education; excellent written and verbal communication; commitment to inclusivity and diversity; proven ability to work collaboratively with others
