The Department of State Hospitals – Coalinga is now accepting applications for multiple Psychologist (HF/C)(Safety) - Retired Annuitant positions. Under general direction, the Psychologist applies psychological knowledge and techniques to the assessment and treatment of forensic patients, mostly sexual offenders detained or committed pursuant to California Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) Act; conduct wide range of psychological assessments; facilitate psychotherapy groups and individual therapy; construct case formulations; develop and implement treatment plans; lead multidisciplinary treatment team conferences; write progress reports; assist in developing training programs for other staff; and serve as consultants. The incumbent has the ability to provide accurate and complete reports and documentation in accordance with professional standards, hospital documentation polices, and State guidelines. Also, the incumbent has the ability to provide psychological assessments that are completed timely and address the required specificity of content.

Working Conditions
The employee is required to work any shift and schedule in a variety of settings throughout the hospital and may be required to work overtime and float to other work locations as determined by the operational needs of the hospital. All employees are required to have an annual health review and TB test or whenever necessary to ascertain that they are free from symptoms indicating the presence of infection and are able to safely perform their essential job functions.
Alternate schedules may be available based on current staffing needs.
Maximum of 960 hours per Fiscal Year (July 1 - June 30)
There are multiple vacancies for this classification. Positions filled may be assigned to any shift on any program.
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
Adherence to Risk Need Responsivity (RNR) principles; Self-Regulation and Better Lives Integrated Models. Knowledge of the SVP Act and the commitment process, wellness and recovery model, and conditional release placement processes. Demonstrates the ability to develop and implement behavioral guidelines, facilitate sex offender Psychoeducational and Process psychotherapy groups using cognitive behavioral principles, provide coaching on self-regulations techniques.

Department Information
DSH-Coalinga opened in 2005 and began treating forensically committed patients, mostly of which are sexually violent predators. It is a self-contained psychiatric hospital constructed with a security perimeter. California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) provides perimeter security as well as transportation of patients to outside medical services and court proceedings.
