Job SummaryJOB TITLE Special Education Behavioral Interventionist REPORTS TO Director of Special Education APPROVED January 13, 2015 JOB SUMMARY To provide assistance to the teacher(s) in the delivery of behavioral interventions, conducting functional behavior assessments, and development of behavior intervention plans. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES None ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Perform intensive behavior interventions and strategies with individual and small groups of students grades K-12. • Actively participate in behavior intervention meetings and professional development. • Communicate with teachers regarding programs and materials to meet student needs. • Maintain Confidentiality of information as required by school policy. • Facilitate and coach teams through the development and implementation of functional behavior assessments/behavior interventions plans and crisis plans for identified students. • Provide social skills instruction to students utilizing research based methodologies and approved district curricula. • Implement and coach school personnel on research based methods of classroom management and behavioral strategies. • Collaborate with school personnel, agencies, and families in coordinating individualized ESE services for students. • Complete all reporting requirements as mandated by the district, state, federal, and educational agencies (i.e. restraint and seclusion, assessments, behavioral data). • Participate in the development of Individualized Educational Programs for students. • Assist school personnel with collection and summarize behavioral data. • Assist with student crisis intervention. • Train special education teachers in functional behavior assessments, behavior intervention plans and managing crisis safely. • Act as a trainer of trainers in an evidence based de-escalation and physical restraint program. • Assist family members and school staff for the purpose of implementing intervention strategies to follow specified behavior management plans. • Collaborate with agencies, families, schools and others as needed for the purpose of implementing the behavior intervention plan as a team. • Coordinate/Maintain a productive daily schedule for the purpose of completing reports, instructional activities and other duties. • Maintain appropriate records for the purpose of preserving the progress of the behavior interventions. • Coordinate identification of students in need of school site based intervention services; assist in the identification of function of student behavior and related factors impinging on student behavior. • Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE B. S. Degree with Alabama Certification in the area of Special Education. Experience in conducting functional behavior assessments and developing and implementing behavior intervention plans. Must possess a valid Alabama Driver's License and ability to provide own or have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements. • LANGUAGE SKILLS Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to interpret behavioral data. Ability to effectively present information to staff regarding behavioral interventions and restraint training. Ability to use computers to perform word processing tasks and maintain records. • PHYSICAL DEMANDS Mobility, agility, and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment. Be capable of moving and lifting moderately heavy weights. • TRANSPORTATION The job requires that you must provide reliable transportation to work sites and meet all Federal, State, and Local laws concerning vehicle registration and insurance requirements.
