Job Title: Drug & Alcohol Counselor / Primary Counselor
Reports To: Clinical Director
Location: Inpatient Residential Treatment Facility (ASAM 3.5 / 3.7)

Position Overview

Resolutions Recovery Center is seeking a full-time Counselor to provide direct clinical services to individuals receiving inpatient substance use disorder treatment. The Counselor is responsible for delivering high-quality, trauma-informed, evidence-based care through individual counseling, group facilitation, treatment planning, and clinical documentation.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical judgment, professionalism, empathy, and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary treatment team. Client safety, ethical practice, and regulatory compliance are core expectations of this role.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachlors Degree in behavioral health or related field (Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, etc.)
  • Master’s Degree in a behavioral health or related field (Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, etc.)
  • Pennsylvania licensure or license eligibility required:
  • LPC, LSW, LCSW, LMFT, or CAADC preferred
  • Experience in substance use disorder treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of ASAM Criteria and levels of care strongly preferred
  • Ability to pass background checks and required clearances

Primary Job ResponsibilitiesClinical Services

  • Provide individual counseling to assigned clients in accordance with individualized treatment plans.
  • Facilitate psychoeducational, therapeutic, and process groups as scheduled.
  • Conduct biopsychosocial assessments and ongoing clinical evaluations.
  • Collaborate with clients to develop and update:
  • Initial Treatment Plans
  • Treatment Plan Reviews/Updates
  • Crisis Response Plans
  • Discharge Plans

Treatment Planning & Care Coordination

  • Participate actively in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings.
  • Present client cases in clinical supervision and case consultation.
  • Coordinate care with internal disciplines including nursing, medical, case management, and peer support.
  • Make appropriate referrals to outside providers and community resources as needed.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation, including but not limited to:
  • Group notes
  • Individual progress notes
  • Treatment plans and updates
  • Discharge summaries
  • Assessments and clinical reviews
  • Ensure documentation meets:
  • DDAP regulations
  • Carelon requirements
  • ASAM standards
  • Agency policies

Risk Management & Safety

  • Monitor clients for changes in mental status, safety risks, and relapse indicators.
  • Respond appropriately to crises, emotional distress, and behavioral concerns.
  • Report unusual incidents and safety concerns per agency policy.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards at all times.

  • CBT, DBT, relapse prevention, and trauma-informed care

  • Strong written and verbal communication

Physical and Work Environment

  • Inpatient residential treatment setting
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, and engage with clients throughout the day
  • Occasional crisis or emotionally intense situations
  • Must be able to maintain professional composure and boundaries
