Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive addiction counseling and mental health support to individuals struggling with substance use disorders. Your expertise will guide clients through recovery, utilizing evidence-based practices such as psychotherapy, motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy. You will conduct thorough patient assessments, develop personalized treatment plans, and facilitate both individual and group therapy sessions. Responsibilities
- Conduct intake assessments and diagnostic evaluations to determine client needs and develop tailored treatment strategies.
- Deliver individual and group counseling sessions utilizing therapeutic modalities such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), behavioral health techniques, and applied behavior analysis when appropriate.
- Implement motivational interviewing techniques to foster client engagement and promote positive behavioral change.
- Provide crisis intervention and crisis management services to clients experiencing acute mental health or substance use crises.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including social workers, medical professionals, and family members, to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and case management records, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Stay current with research developments in addiction medicine, mental health counseling, and behavioral health practices to enhance service quality. Experience
- Proven experience in addiction counseling or clinical counseling within hospital or community care settings.
- Strong background in psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and behavioral therapy techniques such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) and applied behavior analysis (ABA).
- Familiarity with medical terminology, ICD coding systems (ICD-9/10), and medical record documentation standards.
- Knowledge of patient assessment tools, diagnostic evaluation procedures, and case management strategies for mental health and substance use disorders.
- Experience working with diverse populations including children & families, individuals with PTSD or trauma histories, and those requiring home & community care services is preferred.
- Ability to manage crisis situations effectively while demonstrating excellent communication skills and empathy.
