Summary

This full-time Social Worker (Program Coordinator) is located in Mental Health Service Line Omaha Outpatient General Mental Health Clinic and serves as both a coordinator of outpatient clinic functions - coordinator of the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Clinic (BHIP) team-based care and a mental health provider with expertise in the treatment of mental health disorders.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy
  • Education
  • Have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)
  • Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited
  • A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work

  • Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level

  • One year of experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level
  • Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment - demonstrating progressively more professional competency
  • Candidates may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship - or equivalent supervised professional experience
  • Licensure/Certification
  • Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level - and must be able to provide supervision for licensure

  • Skill in coordinating and implementing one or more specialty program(s) - across the facility

  • Skill in organizing work - setting priorities - meeting multiple deadlines - and evaluating assigned program area(s)
  • Ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care
  • Ability to provide the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed

Duties

  • Manages daily functioning of the clinic to ensure appropriate coverage of clinic services (e.g

  • Reviews and directs clinic flow
  • Establishes processes for service provision consistent with VHA mandates and current capabilities
  • Monitors productivity and access
  • Resolves urgent access and response time issues
  • Establishes clear procedures for post-discharge follow-up from inpatient and coordination with other services
  • Develops policies and procedures to manage clinic operations
  • Coordinates care including serving as an advocate on behalf of the Veterans on BHIP teams to ensure delivery of comprehensive - seamless Mental Health Service
  • Aligns MHC programs closely with the BHIP 2.0 model
  • Supports and directs all MHC sites to ensure consistency across NWI
  • Runs program level meetings to ensure communication and education regarding relevant issues
  • Provides relevant reporting to service line chief regarding program functioning
  • Oversees multiple outpatient general Mental Health Clinics across from NWI
  • Coordinates activities among programs in the section - communicating to programs - representing program interests within the wider service line - and ensuring programs are in compliance with all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements as well as with all VHA guidelines
  • May hold faculty appointment at affiliated university
