Under the supervision of the Director of Student Services, or designee, this position serves as liaison between school and home, foster youth, and other service agencies, working with and on the behalf of students whose home or community presents personal and situational problems which impede their educational progress.

Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities

The Social Worker also effects resolutions of problems which may be adversely affecting achievement, attendance, behavior, school, adjustment, and student welfare; supervises interns in a program to obtain a master’s of social work (MSW) and/or field service students; serves as a school district representative with colleges and universities, which assign interns and/or field service workers; and serves as a school district representative with community service beneficiaries, community-based organizations, and support service provider agencies involved with students and/or students’ families.

Collaborates with site staff to coordinate the transition of students back into mainstream education after expulsion. Conducts home evaluations for school/behavior assessment gathering information to assist in the development of an effective academic and family case management behavioral remediation plan.

Conducts interviews in multiple settings, including homes, with students, families, and staff to identify and resolve barriers to learning. Consults with school administrators and other school personnel, as well as community agencies and organizations, in matters affecting the welfare of students.

Initiates referrals of parents and students to appropriate support service community agencies and acts as liaison between the agency, the school, and the home. Provides welfare and attendance services to students who have been referred by school personnel, parents, community agencies, or others, in an effort to facilitate optimum student educational and social adjustment.

Provides consultations to the home, school, and community concerning factors which influencebehavior, attendance, and the learning process. Provides direct counseling services to students and their families to effect positive behavioral, emotional, and academic development.

Provides in-service training to school personnel in areas affecting emotional, behavioral, and academic development.

Attends community meetings, IEP meetings, SARB meetings, and related activities. Prepares correspondence, reports, and other appropriate communications

Education and Experience

A master’s degree in social work from an accredited institution and obtaining field hours necessary for attaining California Clinical Social Worker Licensure is required.

Three (3) years’ experience as a practicing MSW is required. Experience in a K-12 public school setting and fluency in Spanish is desired. Additional desirable experience includes: Home evaluations, short-term support in problem-solving and obtaining resources, Small-group support classes in victim awareness, social skills, etc. Collaboration with other government agencies to create partnerships when working with families in crisis, leveraging resources to maximize outreach to students and families

Working Environment

The job functions are generally performed in an indoor/outdoor environment requiring the following significant physical abilities: sitting for prolonged periods, lifting, carrying, reaching, holding, fingering, feeling, talking, hearing, and near and far visual acuity/visual accommodation. The social worker is required to travel to different sites, and to make frequent home visits to conduct assessments, evaluations, and interviews.

Minimum Qualifications

● Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Masters Degree in Social Work or a related field.

● California Clinical Social Worker Licensure

● Hold a valid Pupil Personnel Service Credential: Social Worker (Preferred) ● Hold a valid California Driver's License.

● Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance.

● Tuberculosis clearance.

● Valid First Aid Certification (preferred but not required).

● Valid CPR Certification (preferred but not required).

● Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish (preferred but not required).

Pay: $46.84 - $52.73 per hour
