NYS Certified High School Guidance Counselor

New Dawn Charter High School seeks a dedicated Guidance Counselor to support our over-aged and under-credited students (ages 16-21), including English Language Learners and students with special needs, in obtaining their high school diplomas.

Key Responsibilities:

• Assist students in developing career plans through the Bridges program.
• Maintain a list of graduating seniors and coordinate college/career fairs and trips.
• Schedule students for classes and help complete FAFSA applications.
• Support students with college and vocational applications, career identification, and professional resume development.
• Ensure all students graduate with a career or college plan.
• Create lesson plans, administer assessments, and collaborate with teachers during planning.
• Use data to inform instruction and stay late on Regents exam days as needed.
• Track student attendance, call mentees, and follow up on absences.
• Attend professional development sessions and use prep time effectively.
• Report to the direct supervisor and Executive Director, working cooperatively with faculty, staff, and administration.
• Support College and Career Readiness

Requirements:

• Graduate degree in Counseling Services.
• NYS Certified in Guidance Counseling
• Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
• Commitment to student success and professional development.
• Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
• Excellent teamwork, work ethic, and organizational skills.
• Communicate effectively in English, both orally and verbally. Spanish Speaking is a plus
• Possess excellent integrity, strong moral character, and initiative.
• Demonstrate technological abilities: word processing, data management, and informational retrieval.
• Maintain ongoing professional development.
• Submit a background check through the New York State Department of Education.
