Position Summary

The Peer Support Recovery Specialist is a supervised, non-licensed support role that provides milieu support, engagement assistance, basic skills reinforcement, and operational support for the IOP and outpatient services. The BHT does not provide psychotherapy, diagnosis, or independent treatment decisions. The position supports the treatment team in maintaining a safe, recovery-oriented environment and in carrying out program routines consistent with BHDDH standards and Thrive Point Recovery policies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support group and individual session logistics (e.g., room setup, attendance tracking, reminders) under the direction of licensed clinical staff.
  • Provide engagement support to clients (e.g., orientation to program routines, reinforcement of participation expectations, basic recovery-oriented encouragement) within established protocols and under supervision.
  • Assist with milieu monitoring to promote safety, order, and a therapeutic environment; promptly report safety concerns, critical incidents, or changes in client status to clinical staff.
  • Support implementation of crisis and safety plans as directed by licensed staff, including promptly notifying clinical or emergency personnel in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with basic administrative tasks related to service delivery (e.g., ensuring forms are completed, routing documents to clinical or administrative staff, helping maintain updated contact information).
  • Participate in team huddles and case reviews as appropriate to share observations about client engagement, attendance, and milieu dynamics; provide information to the clinical team that may inform assessment and treatment planning.
  • Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, and Thrive Point Recovery policy.
  • Complete required orientation and ongoing training, including client rights, cultural competence, safety, infection control, crisis response, and other topics required by BHDDH and organization policy.
  • Perform front desk and reception functions as assigned, including greeting clients and visitors, answering phones, checking clients in and out, verifying basic demographic/insurance information, preparing and collecting intake paperwork, scanning/faxing documents, and routing messages to appropriate staff, while maintaining confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries.
  • Provide Mentorship not Clinical Therapy.
  • Assist with appointment reminders and attendance tracking (e.g., confirming upcoming appointments, logging no-shows/cancellations) according to established procedures.

Minimum Qualifications

MUST have an Active CPRS certification and able to work in Rhode Island

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Lived Experience with Mental Health or substance use recovery.
  • At least one year of experience in behavioral health, substance use disorder services, healthcare, or human services, preferably in a direct-care or support role.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and to follow directions from clinical and supervisory staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Some college coursework in psychology, social work, human services, or a related field.
  • Experience working with adults with substance use disorders, mental health conditions, or co-occurring disorders.
  • Bilingual or bicultural skills reflecting the local community.
