Under the direction and supervision of the Heart of Texas Substance Abuse Services Program Manager, provides services to individuals seeking treatment with a substance use disorder diagnosis that may also have a mental health diagnosis. Counselor will provide direct care to adults in an outpatient setting. Services include group, individual counseling; assessment and treatment planning; chemical dependency education; and relapse prevention case coordination, crisis intervention and appropriate community referrals. Counselor will establish and maintain good working relationships with local schools, probation, judges and other community resources. Counselor must be a recovery role model for clients in treatment. LCDC will implement a recovery oriented, client-centered clinical approach, working with individuals who are currently seeking recovery services. EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:                      Completes screening, assessments and treatment plans Provide effective continuity of care ensuring that client needs are metProvides crisis counseling and supports as deemed necessaryPrepares progress notes and other required documentationProvides individual sessions Facilitates group sessionsParticipate in Treatment Team MeetingsProvide case management Experience and TrainingRequires successful experience in providing mental health services for persons, a working knowledge of DSM-5, psychosocial assessments and crisis intervention.  LCDC or LCDC-Intern Level II Required. Requires excellent communication skillsPrefer prior experience in the field.Education/LicenseGraduation from an accredited college or university with a minimum of an Associates Degree, a Bachelors Degree, or Master's Degree with a major in social work, psychology, human services, or other related field is preferred.
