Position Summary
The AY Pump Shaft & Shell Machining Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, and monitoring CNC machining equipment used to manufacture pump shafts and shells to precise specifications. This position plays a critical role in maintaining production quality, machine efficiency, and workplace safety.
The ideal candidate will have machining experience, strong mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and the ability to accurately inspect finished parts while working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
CNC Machine Operation & Setup
• Set up and operate CNC machines according to work instructions, blueprints, setup sheets, and production specifications.
• Load and secure materials, fixtures, and tooling properly before machine operation.
• Install and adjust cutting tools, machine settings, and offsets as needed to maintain product quality.
• Start and monitor machine cycles to ensure safe and efficient production.
Quality & Precision Inspection
• Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other inspection tools to verify conformance to specifications.
• Inspect parts throughout the production process to identify defects, dimensional issues, or inconsistency.
Troubleshooting & Equipment Monitoring
• Monitor machine performance and detect malfunctions, tool wear, or operational issues.
• Make minor machine adjustments and notify supervision or maintenance when additional support is required.
• Assist with routine machine maintenance and cleaning to support equipment reliability.
Safety & Workplace Organization
• Follow all company safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all manufacturing procedures, attendance expectations, and production requirements.
Production & Team Support
• Maintain accurate production counts and documentation.
• Work collaboratively with supervisors, maintenance, and team members to meet production goals.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements
Required Skills & Experience
• 1–3 years of machining, CNC operation, or related manufacturing experience preferred.
• Ability to safely operate manufacturing equipment and follow setup instructions. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality parts.• Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic quality inspections.• Basic math skills, including fractions, decimals, measurements, and conversions. • Ability to read and follow written instructions, safety rules, and operating procedures.• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting ability. • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to bend, reach, twist, and perform repetitive motions in a manufacturing environment.
Preferred Qualifications
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Forklift certification or ability to obtain certification preferred.
• Previous CNC machining or metalworking experience preferred.
