Job Title: Resource CounselorDepartment: HGLCSTitle of Immediate Supervisor: Resource Counselor SupervisorPosition SummaryThe Resource Counselor supports students in the Henrietta G. Lewis Campus School by responding to behavioral crises, supervising in-school suspensions and time outs, and maintaining a safe, supportive environment throughout the school day. This role works closely with teachers to assist students in de-escalating, re-engaging, and returning to class successfully. Resource Counselors also provide hallway, lunchroom, and bus supervision, helping foster a positive school culture where students can thrive academically and socially.DepartmentThe Henrietta G. Staff maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) and First Aid/CPR certifications provided by the agency.Position Specific Duties/ResponsibilitiesRespond to behavioral crises by providing immediate support and, when needed, removing students from classSupervise students during in-school suspensions, extended time outs, or while awaiting reentry to programsMonitor students suspended from public school during the school dayProvide supervision in hallways, lunchroom, and bus dismissal areas as neededAssist teachers in de-escalating and supporting students in crisisPerform morning check-ins with day students and track late returns from home visitsRecord and maintain data on “out-of-program” students; prepare reports on suspensions and time-outsSupport and actively contribute to the school-wide PBIS programParticipate in staff training, including TCI refreshers as requestedMaintain accurate records of student supervision and disciplinary actionsAttend mandatory in-service training, staff meetings, and supervision sessionsPerform additional duties as assigned by the Principal or SupervisorKnowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesStrong ability to build supportive and respectful relationships with youthSkills in de-escalation, behavior management, and crisis responseEffective communication across mediums (logs, email, phone)Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to remain calm in stressful situationsAbility to collaborate with staff, families, and community partners to support studentsQualificationsHigh School Diploma or equivalent (required)Previous experience with children with behavioral disorders (preferred)Valid driver’s license, adequate auto insurance, and ability to meet agency driving criteria (required)Ability to pass an annual physical per agency health policy (Category 3 classification)Compliance with agency safety standards and healthy work environment practicesCommitment to Diversity, Equity, and InclusionWe want to emphasize that the preferred qualifications are not required and that we are committed to helping our future colleagues develop these preferred skills.
