Job Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Certified Substance Abuse Counselor to join our dynamic behavioral health team. Duties
- Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine individual treatment needs.
- Develop personalized treatment plans incorporating psychotherapy, behavioral therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and motivational interviewing techniques.
- Facilitate individual and group counseling sessions focused on addiction medicine, mental health counseling, and behavior management strategies.
- Implement crisis intervention protocols to support clients experiencing acute distress or relapse episodes, ensuring safety and stabilization.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation, including progress notes, treatment plans, and medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to coordinate case management, discharge planning, and community care services such as home visits or hospital-based care.
- Utilize research and data collection methods to monitor client progress, adjust treatment approaches, and contribute to program improvement efforts.
Experience
- Proven experience in addiction counseling, clinical counseling, or behavioral health settings with a focus on substance use disorders.
- Strong background in psychotherapy modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), applied behavior analysis (ABA), and social work principles.
- Familiarity with crisis management procedures, PTSD care protocols, and trauma-informed care practices.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10), and medical documentation standards necessary for accurate recordkeeping.
- Experience working in hospital environments or community-based settings with home care experience is highly desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to perform patient assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and case management effectively.
- Certification as a Substance Abuse Counselor (e.g., CADC or equivalent) is required; additional training in CPT coding or ICD coding is a plus.
