Full-Time Substance Use Counselor
We are seeking a compassionate and dependable Substance Use Counselor to join our outpatient Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program. This is a full-time position working with individuals in recovery by providing counseling, support, and case management services in a fast-paced outpatient setting.
Schedule
- Monday–Friday: 5:45 AM – 1:45 PM
- 1–2 Saturdays per month: 6:30 AM – 10:30 AM
- One additional weekday off when scheduled to work Saturday shifts
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, or related field required
- Must live in Athens or the surrounding area
- Qualifications
- CADC, CADC-II, CAC, or similar substance use certification or must be able to obtain CADC-II within 2 years of employment
- Experience working in substance use treatment, behavioral health, or MAT programs preferred
- Knowledge of addiction, recovery principles, trauma-informed care, and co-occurring disorders
- Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills

A Substance Use Counselor in a Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) facility provides counseling, case management, and recovery support services to individuals receiving treatment for opioid and substance use disorders. Counselors work closely with medical providers and clinical staff to support patient recovery, promote treatment compliance, and help patients achieve long-term stability.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive substance use assessments and psychosocial evaluations
- Develop individualized treatment plans and recovery goals
- Provide individual, group, and family counseling services
- Educate patients on addiction, relapse prevention, coping skills, and recovery resources
- Monitor patient progress and document treatment participation and outcomes
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with state, federal, and accreditation standards
- Coordinate care with medical providers, nurses, case managers, probation officers, and outside agencies as needed
- Assist patients with referrals for housing, employment, mental health services, and community resources
- Conduct crisis intervention and risk assessments when necessary
- Support medication compliance and encourage participation in treatment programming
- Facilitate therapeutic groups and psychoeducational sessions
- Maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA and ethical guidelines
- Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education activities
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, and move throughout the facility during scheduled shifts
- Ability to maintain professional composure in stressful or crisis situations
- Ability to complete documentation and manage multiple tasks efficiently

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $35,360.00 - $47,000.00 per year
