Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Substance Use Disorder (SUD) Counselor to join our dynamic recovery treatment team. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive group addiction counseling and mental health support (PHP/IOP) to individuals struggling with substance use issues. Your skills and expertise will help clients navigate recovery, develop coping strategies, and achieve lasting wellness. Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient assessments, including diagnostic evaluations and intake interviews, to determine individual treatment needs.
  • Develop personalized treatment plans utilizing clinical counseling techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, and behavioral therapy.
  • Provide group counseling sessions focused on addiction recovery, mental health management, and relapse prevention.
  • Implement crisis intervention strategies to support clients experiencing acute distress or behavioral emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate SUD treatment documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations, CARF, and OHMHAS, including progress notes, treatment plans, medical records and diagnosis using ICD coding standards (ICD-9, ICD-10).
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams for case management, peer support, referrals and collaborative agencies, discharge planning, and community resource linkage to ensure comprehensive patient care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in social work, psychology, counseling, or a related field; licensure or certification as required by state law.
  • Proven experience in addiction counseling, behavioral health, or mental health services, preferably within treatment & community settings.
  • Strong knowledge of psychotherapeutic modalities such as motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and trauma-informed care including PTSD management.
  • Familiarity with crisis management techniques and crisis intervention protocols.
  • Experience with CARF and OHMHAS rules, regulations, standards of documentation procedures, and understanding of 42 CFR PART 2 federal regulation and compliance standards.
  • Ability to perform patient assessments using diagnostic tools aligned with ICD coding systems; proficient in data collection and research methodologies related to behavioral health outcomes.
