The clinicians are fully supportive and encourage the GCAs to observe / shadow appointments with them.Summary The Genetic Counseling Coordinator (Genetics Counselor Assistant) provides specialized support to a multi-specialty genetics team in areas of medical record review and case preparation, clinical/family history acquisition, referral management, case coordination, and client communication. There is also opportunity to support genetics involvement in multi-disciplinary care, lab stewardship and community events.

Job DescriptionThe Genetic Counseling Coordinator (Genetic Counselor Assistant) provides essential clinical and administrative support to the Medical Genetics department, focusing primarily on patient intake and case preparation. Key clinical duties include reviewing medical histories, identifying referral-eligible patients, and drawing detailed pedigrees from family history questionnaires. The coordinator/assistant further aids in the diagnostic process by assisting with cancer risk estimate models and researching testing options to support genetic counselors in their consultations. Administratively, the role involves coordinating care by obtaining medical records, managing test paperwork, appointment scheduling and facilitating insurance authorizations. The coordinator/assistant also serves as a liaison for communication, helping to convey straightforward test results and maintaining departmental educational materials and brochures. By identifying potential genetics cases in tumor boards and meeting ongoing competency requirements, the coordinator/assistant ensures that clinical workflows remain efficient and aligned with current guidelines. Additional duties as assigned.Qualifications Bachelor’s degree focused on science or psychology, to include successful completion of biology course work, required.
