Intake Coordinator / Medical Assistant – Opioid Treatment Program

We are seeking a compassionate, organized, and detail-oriented Intake Coordinator / Medical Assistant to join our expanding Opioid Treatment Program (OTP). The ideal candidate will provide both administrative intake coordination and direct clinical support, including patient admissions, scheduling, documentation, vital signs, specimen collection, and assisting medical staff with daily patient care operations. This role is essential to ensuring patients receive respectful, efficient, and high-quality care throughout the admissions, treatment, and recovery process.
The ideal candidate is comfortable working with individuals in recovery, understands the importance of confidentiality and professionalism, and can effectively balance administrative duties with direct patient care responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Intake & Admissions
* Welcome and assist new patients during the admissions process.
* Complete intake paperwork, consent forms, releases of information, and insurance verification.
* Schedule appointments, assessments, and follow-up visits.
* Collect demographic, medical, substance use, and psychosocial history information.
* Explain program rules, treatment expectations, dosing procedures, and patient rights.
* Coordinate communication between counselors, nursing staff, providers, and patients.
* Ensure all intake documentation comply with HIPAA, federal confidentiality regulations, and Utah state requirements.
* Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR/EMR) documentation.
* Assist patients with obtaining referrals, community resources, and required documentation.
Medical Assistant Duties
* Obtain and record vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respiration, oxygen saturation, height, and weight.
* Prepare patients for medical evaluations and provider appointments.
* Assist nursing and medical staff with patient flow and routine clinical procedures.
* Collect urine drug screen samples and maintain chain-of-custody procedures when required.
* Perform specimen handling and basic laboratory support duties.
* Monitor clinic areas for cleanliness, infection control, and safety compliance.
* Stock and organize medical supplies and intake materials.
* Support medication dosing operations as permitted under state and facility guidelines.
* Observe patients and report medical or behavioral concerns to clinical staff promptly.
Qualifications
* High School Diploma or GED required.
* Previous experience in behavioral health, substance use treatment, mental health, or medical office settings preferred but not required.
* Knowledge of HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards required.
* Strong communication, customer service, and de-escalation skills.
* Ability to work with diverse populations in a compassionate and nonjudgmental manner.
* Experience with EMR/EHR systems preferred but not required.
* CPR/BLS preferred or willingness to obtain upon hire.
Preferred Skills
* Bilingual skills are a plus.
* Familiarity with opioid treatment programs, recovery services, or harm reduction principles.
* Strong multitasking and organizational abilities.
* Ability to remain calm and professional in fast-paced or emotionally sensitive situations.

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
