We are seeking a compassionate and experienced Music Therapist to join our team. The Music Therapist will provide both individual and group therapy sessions for children from traumatic backgrounds. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the therapeutic benefits of music and a passion for helping children heal and grow through creative expression.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Individual Therapy: Conduct one-on-one music therapy sessions tailored to the specific needs and goals of each child. Use music interventions to address emotional, psychological, and developmental issues.
  • Group Therapy: Facilitate group music therapy sessions that promote social interaction, emotional expression, and collective healing among children with similar experiences.
  • Assessment and Planning: Evaluate each child's needs and create individualized treatment plans. Adjust and modify therapy techniques as needed to achieve the best outcomes.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other therapists, counselors, and educators to integrate music therapy into comprehensive care plans. Participate in team meetings and contribute to the overall therapeutic strategy.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of each therapy session, including progress notes, treatment plans, and outcomes. Ensure all documentation is completed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Family Involvement: Engage with families and caregivers to provide support and education on the benefits of music therapy. Offer guidance on how they can support their child's therapeutic journey at home.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with the latest research and developments in music therapy. Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions to continuously improve skills and knowledge.
  • Advocacy: Advocate for the importance of music therapy within the organization and the broader community. Promote awareness and understanding of the therapeutic benefits of music for children from traumatic backgrounds.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Music Therapy from an accredited institution.
  • Certification: Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC) required.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working as a music therapist, preferably with children and adolescents. Experience with trauma-informed care is highly desirable.
  • Age Requirement: Must be 25 years or older.
  • Skills: Strong musical skills and proficiency in a variety of instruments. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills. Ability to connect with children and create a safe, supportive environment.
  • Personal Attributes: Empathetic, patient, and creative. Able to handle emotionally challenging situations with sensitivity and professionalism.

Working Conditions:

  • Work primarily in therapy rooms, classrooms, and community spaces.
  • May require occasional evening or weekend hours to accommodate the needs of children and their families.
  • Some travel may be necessary for home visits, community outreach, or professional development opportunities.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $50.00 per hour
