Cornerstone Montgomery – Crisis Counselor

Cornerstone Montgomery empowers people living with mental health and co-occurring substance use disorders to live, work, and integrate successfully into the community. We envision that each person we serve will have a meaningful life of their choosing. As the largest outpatient behavioral health agency in Montgomery County, we offer years of evidence based treatment experience to our consumers and practical training to our staff. Our robust training program allows staff members to develop and grow in the position and provides the basis for upward mobility within the agency.

Crisis Counselors support clients who are in crisis by providing an alternative to hospitalization. Support services are provided to help clients continue to live their lives including going to work, meeting with their outpatient providers, attending day programs, and spending time with family and friends; all while receiving medication adjustments, counseling, and 24 hour support.

*Please note that this position will be two 25-hour shifts/week with each shift including a 5-hour unpaid sleep shift*

Responsibilities of the Crisis Counselor

  • Provide client centered services to clients with mental illness or co-occurring mental illness and substance use disorders within the Alternative to Hospitalization Program
  • Introductory knowledge of public social services programs and policies; how to develop, initiate and follow through with a plan of service; current health, social services and mental hygiene resources and how to appropriately link people to them
  • Supports clients in taking prescribed medication, including monitoring medications when needed

Qualifications of the Crisis Counselor

  • High School Diploma/GED required, BA in Psychology, Social Work, or Sociology preferred (unless required by State Contract)
  • Driver’s license, proof of auto insurance, and access to a vehicle for work purposes

Eligible for health care (single and family) the 1st of the month following 30 days of employment. Must work a minimum of 20 hours per week to be eligible for benefits and leave accruals. 403(b) retirement plan with employer match available. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position.
