Position Overview:
We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Addictions Counselor with experience in the ASAM criteria to join our dedicated behavioral health team. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in addiction treatment, cultural competence, and the ability to provide personalized care to individuals from diverse backgrounds. This role includes client assessment, treatment planning, individual and group counseling, and interdisciplinary collaboration to support each client’s recovery journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assessment and Diagnosis:

Conduct comprehensive substance use and mental health assessments using the ASAM criteria to determine level of care, treatment needs, and individualized support.

  • Treatment Planning:

Develop and regularly update client-centered treatment plans based on clinical findings, cultural background, readiness for change, and other psychosocial factors.

  • Counseling and Therapy:

Facilitate individual and group therapy sessions using evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing, and trauma-informed care. Address addiction, co-occurring disorders, relapse prevention, and coping strategies.

  • Cultural Sensitivity:

Create an inclusive therapeutic environment by demonstrating respect for the diverse cultural, spiritual, and personal values of each client. Adapt communication and interventions to meet client needs appropriately.

  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration:

Work collaboratively with other counselors, social workers, medical providers, and case managers to ensure coordinated, holistic care and appropriate referrals.

  • Documentation and Compliance:

Maintain accurate, timely documentation, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries, in accordance with state and federal regulations.

  • Education and Outreach:

Participate in staff development and contribute to client and community education efforts focused on addiction awareness and recovery resources.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field.
  • Active licensure or certification in addictions counseling (e.g., ADT, CSC-AD, CAC-AD, LGADC, LCADC).
  • Demonstrated experience with ASAM criteria and evidence-based treatment models.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and motivate clients.
  • Proven ability to work with diverse populations and maintain cultural humility in clinical practice.
  • Commitment to ethical, client-centered, and trauma-informed care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specialized training or certification in addiction counseling or co-occurring disorders.
  • Multilingual abilities, particularly in languages spoken by local communities.
  • Experience in community-based or outpatient addiction treatment settings.
