Position Description
Job Summary:
The Yard Operations Technician is a key support role responsible for maintaining efficient yard operations, transporting equipment and materials, and supporting field crews. This position combines CDL driving, equipment handling, yard organization, and basic maintenance responsibilities. The ideal candidate demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, operational efficiency, and teamwork in a fast-paced construction environment.
Essential Functions:
- Protect family and friends. Safely transport construction equipment, materials, and tools to and from job sites using CDL Class A vehicles, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries that support field operations.
- Safety always wins. Load, secure, and unload equipment such as skid steers, rollers, broom tractors, and compressors in a manner that prevents damage and meets all safety and DOT requirements.
- Determined. Coordinate and execute the pickup and delivery of parts, tools, and supplies from local vendors to minimize downtime and keep crews operating efficiently.
- Committed to serve. Support logistics and freight handling activities by assisting with loading, unloading, and organizing incoming and outgoing materials.
- Obligated. Maintain an organized yard layout by positioning equipment and trailers to maximize accessibility, efficiency, and safe workflow.
- Dedication. Move trailers and equipment within the yard to support daily operations and ensure readiness for dispatch.
- Keep the yard clean, orderly, and hazard-free to promote a safe working environment for all employees.
- Perform routine preventative maintenance, including inspections, cleaning, and minor repairs, to extend equipment life and reduce breakdowns.
- Prepare equipment for field use by completing fueling, washdowns, and basic readiness checks to ensure reliability on job sites.
- Results matter. Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections and maintain compliance with DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards at all times.
- Mastery. Identify and address potential safety hazards proactively, contributing to a culture of safety and continuous improvement.
Position Requirements
Requirements, Education and Experience:
- Valid CDL Class A license required (restricted minimum; unrestricted preferred) with a clean driving record and strong commitment to safe vehicle operation.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including early starts, overtime, and occasional weekends, based on operational needs.
- Experience in yard operations, construction, equipment handling, logistics, or a similar hands-on role involving material movement and heavy equipment.
- Working knowledge of DOT regulations, load securement, and general transportation and workplace safety standards (OSHA).
- Ability to safely operate, or willingness to learn to operate, heavy equipment such as skid steers, rollers, forklifts, and other construction machinery.
- Mechanical aptitude with the ability to perform basic preventative maintenance, inspections, and minor repairs on equipment.
- Strong organizational and communication skills, with the ability to coordinate logistics, manage yard efficiency, and support field operations.
- Familiarity with construction materials, equipment parts, and vendor sourcing is preferred.
- High attention to detail with a proactive, safety-first mindset and the ability to identify and address issues before they impact operations.
- Authorized to work in the U.S.

Travel:
Position may require travel by personal vehicle to offices throughout the state of New York, and New England based on the needs of the business.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
Heavy work that includes moving objects up to 100lbs or more. This position works outdoors in most types of weather including high heat, and inclement weather. This position works near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment. This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time as well as bending, kneeling, squatting, climbing, walking, sitting, reaching, driving, and repetitive motion.
