Use Your Recovery Journey to Guide Others as a Peer Specialist – Substance Use Recovery Team
Your experience matters — and your recovery story can be a lifeline for someone else. As a Peer Specialist on our Substance Use Recovery team, you’ll provide hope, support, and real-world guidance to individuals working to overcome substance use challenges. By sharing your lived experience and walking alongside others on their recovery path, you’ll help build trust, encourage healing, and support lasting change.

This is a great opportunity for someone who:
Is in recovery from substance use or a behavioral health diagnosis and wants to make a powerful impact by supporting others through similar experiences.

Key Responsibilities


  • Share your recovery story and model healthy coping and decision-making
  • Help individuals identify strengths and build their personal recovery goals
  • Provide encouragement, accountability, and connection to community resources
  • Support individuals in navigating treatment and building natural support networks
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to collaborative wellness planning
  • Assist with transportation to appointments or services, as clinically indicated; driving is an essential function of this position.
  • Collect and process urine drug screens per program protocols
  • Engage in required state certification training, supervision, and certification process (if not already certified)


Requirements, Skills, Knowledge and Expertise


  • High School/GED required
WORK EXPERIENCE
  • Must self-identify as a current or former consumer of behavioral health, substance use, or co-occurring disorder services
  • Must complete a state-approved training program, pass a standardized examination, complete certification process within 60 days of hire date, and maintain ongoing certification as a Certified Peer Specialist through the MCB (MO). Required only when applicable.
  • A valid driver's license and agency established minimum automobile coverage required
