Summary of Major Responsibilities:
The SUD Counselor plays a pivotal role, delivering direct, client-centered services to individuals on their caseload, facilitating therapeutic groups, and crafting discharge plans tailored to sustain recovery. Reporting to the Care Coordinator, the SUD Counselor is instrumental in implementing the treatment modalities outlined within the program, offering support, guidance, and educational interventions to foster clients’ progress.
Detailed Duty Statement:
· Conduct individual counseling sessions, providing client support and addressing the specific needs identified in treatment plans.
· Facilitate group therapy sessions, employing evidence-based practices to encourage peer support and develop coping strategies.
· Participate in the development and execution of client discharge planning, ensuring a continuum of care post-treatment.
· Maintain timely and comprehensive documentation of client interactions, progress notes, and treatment changes.
· Work collaboratively with the clinical team to assess client progress, modifying treatment plans as necessary.
· Provide clients with resources and referrals for additional support services within the organization and the wider community.
· Engage in case management tasks as necessary, coordinating care and collaborating with external agencies for a holistic treatment approach.
· Adhere to the code of ethics and maintain professionalism as an SUD Counselor, upholding client confidentiality and organizational policies.
· Continually enhance professional knowledge and skills by staying abreast of new developments in addiction treatment and participating in ongoing training opportunities.

Qualifications Needed:
· Registration or certification as an SUD Counselor in the state of California.
. Experience on KIPU Software its mandatory
· A minimum of an Associate’s degree in Alcohol and Drug Treatment, Behavioral Science, Counseling, Social Work, or a related field is preferred; a Bachelor’s degree is highly regarded.
· Substantial experience working with individuals with substance use disorders, including in a residential or outpatient setting.
· Familiarity with evidence-based practices specific to substance use disorder treatment, such as Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and relapse prevention strategies.
· Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish rapport with clients and contribute to a therapeutic environment conducive to recovery.
· Excellent communication and group facilitation skills, with the capacity to manage diverse group dynamics and foster a supportive group structure.
· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide integrated client care.
· Proficient in clinical documentation and electronic health record systems, as well as other computer literacy basics (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
· Dedicated to ethical practice, committed to ongoing personal and professional development.
· Understanding of and sensitivity to the multifaceted socio-cultural factors affecting individuals with substance use disorders; cultural competency is a must.
· Exceptional organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently.
· Ability to respond effectively to crises and work in a potentially high-stress environment.
· Capacity to maintain boundaries and work within established protocols and guidelines.
