Obtain and review pertinent medical, family and pregnancy histories and generate a three generation pedigree for patients and families at risk for a fetal anomaly or genetic disease or syndrome. Communicate genetic risks, medical information and testing/screening options to patients in a non-directive, supportive, and understandable manner. Provide short term supportive counseling and facilitate informed decision making. Generate summary note and communicate findings and recommendations to the referring provider following patient consult/procedure. Discuss significance of genetic test results with patient and referring provider. Ongoing case management responsibilities include communicating with various laboratories, consulting with medical geneticist or other specialists, coordinating additional studies, and scheduling follow up appointments as necessary. Coordinate service delivery at all clinics, including management of appointment template and processing of samples. Functions independently and as part of team in administration and development of programs integral to delivery of prenatal genetics services. Undertake and coordinate graduate level teaching activities, and directly supervise genetic counseling interns involved in the care of patients. Enroll patients and collect data for occasional research studies. Must have passed the American Board of Genetic Counseling examination Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California Genetic Counselor III Must have graduated from an accredited Genetic Counseling Program Must have passed the American Board of Genetic Counseling exam and be able to provide documentation as such. Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California Previous experience in a PrenatalDiagnostic Center and demonstrated expertise in the field of prenatal genetics. Preferred Qualifications: Genetic Counselor II Previous experience in a Prenatal Diagnostic Center Strong consideration given to a candidate demonstrating fluency in Spanish or Cantonese Diplomate of the American Board of Genetic Counseling Genetic Counselor III Strong consideration given to a candidate demonstrating fluency in Spanish or Cantonese Required Licenses/Certifications: Genetic Counselor II Must be eligible for or have passed the American Board of Genetic Counseling exam Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California Genetic Counselor III Diplomate of the American Board of Genetic Counseling Genetic Counselor License issued by the State of California Current AHA CPR licensure Salary Information The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF.
