Launched in February of 2026, our newest location in Golden Valley, MN, will be home to top local talent in behavioral health care. This interdisciplinary team of trailblazers will build our adolescent and adult programs from the ground up alongside the leadership of well-established clinicians and doctors working in PHP/IOP behavioral health care for the past decade.     

Our Family Therapists play a key role in our multi-disciplinary teams and work to ensure synergy across treatment. As a Family Therapist, you’ll conduct family sessions with patients and their loved ones that will aim at providing support, offering education, and promoting collaboration. If your passion is helping those who are working to support our patients, you would be a great addition to our team.

This role will work with patients in our Mood & Anxiety Program, while also offering the opportunity to be cross-trained within our specialty programs and services: Trauma, OCD/Complex Anxiety, Mental Health and Substance Use. The Family Therapist is ideal for someone who is eager to collaborate with an array of clinicians and patient populations, while broadening their clinical skillset through ample training and support.

What You'll Do:

  • Facilitating family sessions to a caseload of assigned patients and their loved ones
  • Providing guidance and support to patients and family members to help promote goals and encourage patients progress through the program.
  • Providing direction to families about effective ways of supporting patients. Discussion topics and family therapy goals include safety plans, incorporating skill implementation, improving communication, creating contracts.
  • Providing loved ones with psychoeducation about substance use and various other Axis 1 and 2 disorder symptoms
  • Provides couples’ therapy for patients and their partners
  • Works with various presenting issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, substance abuse, PTSD, Axis 2 Disorder, Bipolar, etc.
  • Assisting in supporting families through phone coaching and follow-up calls.
  • Supporting patients in crisis.
  • Coordinating with the treatment team. This involves attending rounds and other program meetings regularly as well as using the electronic systems of communication.
  • Communicating with outside providers conducting family therapy for continuity of care.
  • Collaborating with the treatment team in assessing the patient’s progress and need for higher level of care, stepdown, or discharge.
  • Helping the family to coordinate an effective discharge plan.
  • Providing individual support to patients as needed.
  • Contributing clinical observations and insights during interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Charting progress of patients appropriately in the electronic medical record.
  • Participating in program meetings as needed.
  • Working on projects focused on program improvement and the overall growth and development of Compass.
  • Participating in a weekly family therapy meeting

  • Opportunities to supervise unlicensed clinicians and work across different programs as needed (e.g., Young Adult, OCD, Trauma, Mental Health Pain and Illness)
  • Participation in monthly 1-hour family support group
  • Provide group therapy, as needed
  • Other duties, as assigned

Who You Are:

  • Are a Psychologist or Master’s level therapist (required)
  • Hold one of the following licenses: PhD, PsyD, LICSW, or LPCC (preferred)
  • 1+ years clinical work experience post-Master’s (strongly preferred)
  • Have knowledge and experience utilizing Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), as well as other evidenced-based therapies, ideally in the context of delivering family therapy
  • Have experience with patients in crisis, ideally prior experience working in partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, inpatient hospital, or residential setting

Pay: $55,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year
