Job Overview
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated K-8 School Counselor to join our vibrant educational community. In this vital role, you will provide comprehensive emotional, social, and academic support to students across kindergarten through eighth grade. Your energetic approach will foster a positive school environment, promote student well-being, and support their overall development. You will collaborate with teachers, parents, and staff to create tailored interventions that address individual student needs, ensuring every child feels valued, understood, and empowered to succeed. Partnership with the Student Success Coordinator will be essential to support school wide character and student supports.

Duties

  • Deliver individual and group counseling sessions focused on behavioral health, mental health counseling, and childhood development to support students’ emotional resilience and social skills
  • Develop and implement behavior management strategies to promote positive conduct within classrooms and the school community
  • Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to identify student needs and inform intervention plans
  • Collaborate with teachers to integrate social-emotional learning into classroom activities and support inclusive education practices
  • Provide academic advising to help students set goals, improve study habits, and navigate educational challenges
  • Coordinate with child protective services and child welfare agencies when necessary to ensure student safety and well-being
  • Facilitate conflict management sessions to resolve disputes among students or staff effectively
  • Offer culturally sensitive counseling services, including cultural diversity counseling and Christian counseling when appropriate
  • Maintain detailed records of counseling sessions, behavioral incidents, and intervention outcomes
  • Advocate for students’ mental health needs by connecting families with external behavioral health resources or community services

Experience

  • Proven experience working with children in an educational or social work setting, preferably within a K-8 environment
  • Strong background in special education principles and classroom experience is highly desirable
  • Demonstrated expertise in conflict management, behavior management techniques, and social work practices
  • Knowledge of childhood development stages, mental health issues affecting children, and behavioral health strategies
  • Experience conducting individual and group counseling sessions with diverse student populations
  • Familiarity with standardized testing procedures and interpretation of assessment results
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with educators, parents, child protective services, and community organizations
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations with professionalism, empathy, and confidentiality
