PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provide leadership, plan, organize, and direct district-wide counseling; direct school reform efforts to improve student
achievement throughout the District; manage responsibilities within the designated areas of counseling, college and career
readiness; ensure the district’s counseling programs conform with District and State objectives; and assist in the oversight
of preparation of all students for college and career.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Master's degree
Current Texas Educator Certification as a School Counselor
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Understand of the role of guidance and counseling in school setting
Understand and manage a developmental guidance program
Excellent written and verbal communication, public relations, organizational and interpersonal skills
Knowledge of laws, policies, procedures, and data related to guidance and counseling
Knowledge of federal and state code governing career and technology education
Manage budget and personnel
Coordinate counselor functions at all levels
Understand school/district administrative functions
Work with principals to shape campus counseling programs
Understand the links between academic counseling and college/career readiness
Work Conditions:
Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged sitting, walking, standing; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Motion: Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 40 pounds)

Minimum Experience:
Three years of successful school teaching experience, preferred
Five years of successful school counseling experience
Experience at all levels of counseling, preferred
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
1. Develop district guidelines for counseling procedures, student records, verification of enrollment/attendance, class
rank/GPA, Superintendent Scholars, improvement/procedures, and guidance issues.
2. Develop and implement district-wide counseling programs for all levels.
3. Prepare/manage budgets for various programs and grants including Title Funds, Local funds, and other State funds
4. Determine staffing needs, interview applicants, and make recommendations for placement.
5. Serve as a liaison between AISD counseling department and community.
6. Serve as the primary point of contact between the district and the Texas Department of Family and Protective
Services (DFPS).
7. Serve on the district SHAC committee.
8. Consult with counselors, principals, and other staff concerning counseling concerns.
9. Facilitate the establishment of programs to increase high school completion.
10. Attend professional conferences and remain current on educational issues, especially in guidance/counseling areas.
11. Update and maintain PEIMS information in Student Management system for submission
12. Coordinate counseling and social worker programs with other AISD programs.
13. Develop and coordinate Master Schedule Process and work collaboratively with campus principals through the
process.
14. Coordinate the AISD Trauma Team.
15. Coordinate administrative aspects of Worth the Wait Program for the district including parent permission forms,
materials, resources, data. Work jointly with instructional staff to ensure effective teacher preparation, training, and
implementation of Worth the Wait lessons.
16. Plan, coordinate, and support both district and school site career and college fairs.
17. Assist in oversight for CTE programming
18. Communicate with other administrators, personnel and outside organizations/government agencies to coordinate
activities and programs, resolve issues and exchange information; develop policies and procedures to encourage
effective and efficient management control.
19. Supervise and evaluate instructional and classified staff to ensure quality in the instructional program.
20. Ensure compliance with all local policies and state and federal statutes including the Educator Code of Ethics.
21. Perform such other tasks and assume such other responsibilities assigned.
