Description

Internship Summary:

Child and Family Services Haven House is excited to offer several internships to enthusiastic and empathetic individuals, interested in working with people experiencing domestic violence. In a supportive and dynamic environment, you will gain valuable understanding about the impact of domestic violence and the service systems available to increase client safety. You will become familiar with a trauma informed approach to providing services, empower clients, and facilitate post traumatic growth. This internship will prepare you with real social work experience and include direct client work and allow you to shadow other positions at Haven House.

Intern Tasks May Include

  • Assist in responding to referrals from the Haven House hotline and registering clients for services
  • Reach out to victims with safety planning and resources
  • Practice foundational counseling skills and techniques.
  • Facilitate psycho-educational groups on topics such as Parenting After Violence and Self-Esteem
  • Provide 1:1 domestic violence education and support to survivors and carry a small individual case load
  • Become a part of the Haven House team
  • Attend supervision and Haven House team meetings

Other Notes

  • The intern will be supervised by a LMSW supervisor of the Counseling and Advocacy Program at Haven House
  • The student will be expected to be available 10-15 hours / week

Minimum Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a BSW or MSW program or related fields.
  • Must be receiving school credit for internship hours
  • Students who are able to commit to placement for a full academic year preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical standards in all work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
  • Cultural competence and sensitivity to diversity, equity and inclusion.
