Preschool and Lower School Counselor (Leave Replacement)
Flexible Full-Time or Adjusted Schedule | Late August – Mid-December 2026
The International School of Brooklyn seeks an energetic, collaborative, and reflective Lower School Counselor (Leave Replacement) to join our team from late August through mid-December 2026. This is a temporary position with flexibility for a full-time or adjusted schedule, depending on the candidate's availability.
Position Overview
The Preschool and Lower School Counselor provides individual and small-group counseling for students in Pre-K 3 through Grade 5, and collaborates closely with teachers, administrators, families, and outside professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide short-term individual and small-group counseling to students
- Collaborate with teachers and administrators to support student needs
- Support classroom social-emotional learning (SEL) and co-lead lessons as needed
- Partner with families through communication, guidance, and workshops
- Coordinate with outside providers and support referral processes
- Participate in student support team meetings and school-wide initiatives
- Maintain appropriate documentation and uphold confidentiality
- Knowledge of CPSE/CSE processes
Qualifications
- Hold a degree in school counseling, psychology, social work, or related field
- Experience working with preschool and elementary-aged children
- Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Knowledge of child development and SEL practices
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive practice
Schedule & Compensation
- Flexible schedule: full-time or adjusted (part-time) schedule available
- Commensurate with experience ($40.00-$48.00 hourly rate)
- This is a temporary position (August–December 2026) and is not eligible for ISB’s full benefits package. It offers meaningful opportunities for professional growth, including collaboration with a supportive team and access to relevant professional development experiences.
