Social Worker

The MSW Social Worker provides direct services to shelter clients, including psychosocial assessments, case planning, and referrals. They play a vital role in supporting clients' progress toward permanent housing and stability but typically operate under the clinical supervision of an LMSW or LCSW. This position reports directly to the LMSW Team Leader.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct psychosocial assessments and develop Individual Service Plans (ISPs).
  • Provide case management, referrals, and advocacy for services such as mental health, medical, substance use, or legal assistance.
  • Maintain timely and accurate documentation in DHS CARES or other mandated systems.
  • Collaborate with shelter staff (e.g., housing specialists, case managers) to support clients' goals.
  • Attend supervision sessions with the LMSW Team Leader.
  • May assist with crisis intervention under guidance of licensed staff.
  • Report regularly to the Team Leader on client progress, case updates, and service needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Must be able to work evenings, at some weekends and some holidays.
  • Must be able to ascend/descend stairs within the building assigned.
  • Must be able to escort clients to appointments as needed.
  • On call 24/7

Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work (MSW).
  • NYS LMSW license preferred but not always required at time of hire (may be required within a certain timeframe).
  • Prior experience in social services or housing preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and documentation skills.
