    POSITION:
    Postsecondary Counseling Assistant (EGHS) 20 hrs/wk Grade 3 Effective April 24, 2026

    SALARY: Grade 3, Step 1, $24.78 ESP Association Agreement 2023 - 2026

    ASSIGNMENT:
    10 Month
    Postsecondary Counseling Assistant 4 hours/day, 20 hours/week
    GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: This work involves a variety of tasks supporting the Postsecondary Counseling program. This employee is expected to interact with students in a friendly manner while maintaining order. There is daily contact with staff, students, and frequent contact with parents, college/career representatives, and the public. The Postsecondary Counseling Assistant provides assistance to students in developing a life and career plan under the supervision of certified staff members.
    An employee in this position works within clearly established systems and procedures, must exhibit organizational skills and exercise independent judgment and confidentiality in the performance of duties. The Postsecondary Counseling Assistant must exhibit initiative and embrace a collaborative team approach to accomplish the mission of the district.
    QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Must have or obtain State and NCLB Approved Paraprofessional designation in accordance with Illinois State Board of Education requirements.
    • Must have physical ability to lift/move supplies, materials and office equipment up to 40 lbs.
    • Must organize and prioritize workflow.
    • Must be proficient in the use of computers, office practices, procedures and office equipment.
    • Must project a positive image of the district to students, staff and parents as well as exhibit a positive employee attitude.
    • Must demonstrate appropriate interpersonal skills, and communicate clearly and respectfully with students, staff, parents, visitors and the general public.
    • Must have awareness of a variety of student needs including physical and social emotional needs.
    POSITION EXPECTATIONS:
    1. Assisting the Postsecondary Counselor, classes and individual students in the efficient and effective functioning of the College and Career Center including, but not limited to:
    • helping to locate and use website
    • issuing passes and reporting attendance for visiting college representatives/career speakers
    • preparing materials for various core guidance sessions and help with presentations
    • developing basic knowledge of software usage to support staff and students
    • possessing the ability and willingness to learn and implement all appropriate school technology
    2. Providing assistance to the student services division by performing various tasks including, but not limited to:
    • utilizing job specific software
    • maintaining files on college recruiting materials, scholarships, testing forms, career materials, and financial aid information
    • helping students, parents and staff in researching college/career opportunities
    • maintaining calendars for college representatives
    • reviewing and processing scholarship and dual credit applications
    • coordinating and announcing college applications
    • advertising material for various events and send out newsletters
    • maintaining spreadsheet of completed FAFSA, college apps, and post-secondary plans status
    • scheduling and supporting FAFSA completions
    3. Maintaining the College and Career Center by, but not limited to:
    • organizing materials including digital materials
    • keeping equipment clean and in good working order
    • recommending purchase of college and career materials as well as office and equipment supplies as needed
    4. Participating in appropriate professional development activities in order to enhance job performance.
    5. Cultivating and developing inclusive and equitable working relationships with staff, students and community members.
