Position: Guidance CounselorContract: 210 DaysReports to: School PrincipalMinimum Qualifications:Under general supervision of the school Principal, to perform comprehensive counseling andacademic guidance with students, provide consultation with staff and parents, conduct staffdevelopment and parent education, and to perform other duties as required. Degree,certification, and job experience strongly preferred.Performance ResponsibilitiesGuidance Develop and adjust individual student schedules as needed to provide for an optimumlearning experience. Assist the registrar with enrollment procedures for new students and familiarize themwith the school policies. Assist the Principal in maintaining class balance and specific program (i.e. gifted andSPED) numbers. Provide articulation services between the middle/high school programs to assiststudents in making the transition. Ensure that all students complete the requirements for the Bridge Bill. Assists in organizing an annual 'College Day'. Prepare documents, forms, newsletters, make phone calls, and use e-mail tocommunicate with and inform parents, as well as collect and update necessaryinformation. Assist the school nurse with ensuring all mandated immunizations are received andupdated shot records are on file. Assist with scheduling and placing students in appropriate academic and behaviorinterventions. Supervises the preparation and processing of official transcripts, scholarships, andemployment applications. Collaborates with teachers and administrators to ensure proper student attendance,keeps appropriate documentation, and works with other agencies to follow up ifstudents are truant.Counseling Conduct structured, goal-oriented counseling sessions in systematic response to theidentified needs of individual students or groups of students. Works with students on an individual basis in the solution of personal problems andissues related to home, family life, emotional, social, and physical health. Provide consultation to all personnel regarding specific students and general schoolissues. Participate in conference with parents, staff, and social agencies regarding students. Provide consultation to parents regarding specific issues that interfere with schoolsuccess. Consult and coordinate with in-district and community based specialists and programs. Assist students and their parents in locating support services to meet their needs. Collaborates with administrators on the matters of student discipline.General School Operation Attend staff and relevant student meetings Serve on school and district level committees Participate in activities that promote a positive school climate Act as an advocate for groups or individual students Maintains student records and protects their confidentiality Perform other duties at the request of Principal
