INTAKE/COUNSELOR
Responsibilities of the Intake/Counselor include and entail:
1. Reports directly to the Executive Director
2. Complete initial Intake Screening on potential clients to see if program is appropriate for their needs. Including ASAM LOC. (Potential clients must have a valid California ID and
Social Security Card)
3. Meets with LPHA to discuss ASAM LOC
4. Answer calls and questions concerning intake
5. Conduct interviews with perspective clients
6. Responsible for legal folders on every resident, ensure folders are kept up to date
7. Create charts for new residents with notes stating the date they entered and/or left the program
8. Prepare Intake Screening Application packets
9. Check Census daily to adjust admit or discharges when necessary. Create new census monthly with current clients
10. Know bed availability at all times
11. Know bed count for each funding source (i.e. General Population, AB109, Re-entry) to keep bed days up
12. Update Community Resource Directory (CRD) weekly
13. Perform warrant checks on all new residents
14. Must have release information form signed and updated at all times on residents regarding their legal status
15. Discuss court cases with lawyers to have resident accepted into the program
16. Must handle all court related matters, i.e. probation, parole, jail interviews
17. All initial court contacts are done by the Intake Counselor rather than the resident alone
18. Responsible to see that clients make all court appointments on time
19. Responsible for all reports and letters to probation, parole and court
20. Counselor is responsible for providing counseling services to residents under supervisor and carry a caseload.
21. Conduct individual and group counseling sessions
22. Participate in in-service training and other staff development activities to increase one’s knowledge of the counseling process and achieve technical competence.

Requirements:
- Must be a licensed or certified addiction counselor or working toward becoming certified through one of the State of California Alcohol and Drug Certification recognized certification boards; CAADAC, CCAPP, CAADE, CADTP or similar professional certificate
- Must have a minimum 2 years’ experience working with alcohol, drug related issue addiction
- Must possess an in-depth knowledge of substance abuse treatment methodologies and diagnostic techniques, familiarity with San Diego substance abuse services system as well as work with clients experiencing mental health conditions.
- Must have experience working with high-risk adult parole/ probation population
- Must be able to work with a culturally diverse population
- Must be computer literate
- Must have knowledge of ASAM criteria and trained on ASAM A, B, & C
- Must be free of parole. Probation for at least two years and pass pre-employment background check and drug screening
- Valid California driver’s license and insurance
- Must be available to work schedules that may include day; evening and weekends to best meet the needs of the population served
Qualifications:
- Three (3) years related experience in AOD services, strong communication skills familiar with safety and program procedures.
- AOD certification/ RADT certification or equivalent, BA in related area preferred.
- Excellent written and verbal skills, basic computer and internet skills.
- Strong ability to be able to work in a multi-task workplace environment and possess the abilities to interact with a multicultural staff as a positive and supportive team player.
- Certified Alcohol Drug Counselor or Registered Alcohol Drug Technician (RADT)
- Valid California Driver’s License

Pay: $72,642.00 - $73,811.00 per year
