LOCATION:

Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility - Detroit, MI 48211

POSITION SUMMARY: The Licensed Psychologist (PhD/PsyD) at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Center will serve as the lead psychological authority within a secure juvenile detention facility. This role is responsible for conducting advanced psychological assessments, overseeing behavioral intervention strategies, providing crisis evaluation, and delivering clinical consultation across multidisciplinary teams.

This position plays a critical role in risk management, stabilization, and treatment planning for court-involved youth while supporting a trauma-informed care environment across custody, clinical, and educational systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychological evaluations, including diagnostic clarification and risk assessments
  • Perform suicide risk and behavioral threat assessments
  • Develop and oversee individualized Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIPs)
  • Monitor and adjust interventions based on youth response and behavioral data
  • Provide real-time consultation during behavioral crises
  • Prepare clear, defensible psychological reports for court and treatment planning
  • Deliver trauma-informed care training to staff
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including custody, medical, educational, and court personnel
  • Coordinate with educational staff regarding IEP implementation and behavioral accommodations
  • Support implementation of trauma-informed and evidence-based practices facility-wide
  • Ensure compliance with licensure standards, policies, and regulatory requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience)

  • Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical, Counseling, or School Psychology from an APA-accredited program
  • Completion of APA-accredited internship (preferred)
  • Licensed Psychologist (LP) in Michigan
  • Valid BLS certification
  • 3–5 years of post-doctoral clinical experience (adolescents preferred)
  • Experience conducting psychological evaluations and risk assessments
  • Experience managing high-acuity behavioral and crisis situations
  • Experience developing Behavioral Intervention Plans
  • Experience working in juvenile justice, detention, or residential settings (preferred)
  • Experience with court reports and/or testimony (preferred)
  • Valid Driver License and reliable transportation

May require flexibility to respond to urgent clinical situations

Salary: $44 - $62 hourly (based on qualification & experience)

Employment Type: Part-Time

Work Hours: 16 hrs. a week

Classification: Non-exempt (hourly)
