VCU Dual Enrollment Physiological Psychology Teacher, Part-Time (2 Sections)

Academic Year 2026-2027

Salary Range: $24,060-$30,770

POSITION SUMMARY
Maggie L. Walker Governor’s School for Government and International Studies (MLWGS), a regional magnet program serving high-achieving students, seeks a part-time Physiological Psychology teacher in partnership with Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU).

This position involves teaching two sections of dual enrollment coursework. The role is primarily instructional, focused on delivering rigorous, college-level content and supporting student learning. Responsibilities are intentionally limited in scope to align with a part-time assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Hold or be eligible for a Virginia Provisional, Collegiate Professional, or Postgraduate Professional License with an endorsement in Science PreK–12

  • Master’s degree required
  • Demonstrated knowledge of college-level psychology curriculum and pedagogy, particularly in physiological psychology
  • Experience working with high-achieving or advanced learners preferred
  • Gifted endorsement or experience with gifted students preferred
  • Experience with dual enrollment or college-level instruction preferred

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Instruction and Classroom Environment

  • Plan and deliver engaging, rigorous instruction aligned with VCU dual enrollment expectations

  • Develop purposeful lesson plans that maximize instructional time and include hands-on activities and lab work
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, engagement, and student independence
  • Demonstrate strong content knowledge and effective communication

Assessment and Student Support

  • Use a variety of assessment methods to evaluate student learning

  • Provide timely feedback and maintain required grading and progress reporting
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction as appropriate
  • Recognize student needs and make referrals when appropriate
  • Maintain confidentiality in accordance with professional standards and legal requirements

Communication and Professional Expectations

  • Communicate appropriately with students and families as needed

  • Uphold school policies, procedures, and expectations
  • Maintain a professional, organized classroom environment
  • Demonstrate reliability, including punctuality and appropriate use of planning time
  • Facilitate parent-teacher conferences biannually

COLLABORATION AND ALIGNMENT

  • Coordinate with MLWGS administration and VCU partners to ensure course alignment

  • Participate in essential or occasional meetings necessary to support instruction and program coherence
  • Collaborate with colleagues as needed to support student success

PART-TIME ROLE CLARITY
This position is designed as a part-time teaching role (2 sections). Responsibilities are focused on instruction and student support. This role does not include extensive committee work, large-scale curriculum development, or broad schoolwide leadership responsibilities.

Professional learning and collaboration expectations are limited and targeted to support instructional effectiveness and dual enrollment alignment.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position involves sitting and/or standing most of the time in a classroom setting; exerting up to 10 pounds occasionally. Occasional stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and repetitive motion. Frequent reaching, standing, walking, lifting, and grasping. Constant talking, hearing, and viewing various types of close visual work. May travel to off-campus facilities and businesses to attend meetings, etc.
