Off-Hours Crisis Worker

Thrive Counseling Center
place Oak Park, 60304
local_atm $31,000a year

About Thrive Counseling Center:

Thrive Counseling Center envisions a world where mental health is valued, proactively nurtured, and is in reach of everyone. As a Community Mental Health Center, we are committed to serving everyone who needs our help. 90% of our clients have very limited financial resources and rely on our therapy and psychiatry services to live a full and balanced life. If you are passionate about equitable and affordable mental health for all, join us at Thrive to provide hope, resilience and recovery for those we serve.

The Role:

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Off-Hours Crisis Worker who embodies our core values of Compassion, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Accessibility, Collaboration, and Innovation. This role supports individuals experiencing mental health crises through phone and in-person response, including assessment, stabilization, and safety planning.

This position operates outside of standard business hours, including evenings, overnights, and weekends. During scheduled shifts, staff are on-call and must be available to respond to crisis situations as they arise.

A unique aspect of this role is that when there are no active crisis calls, staff have significant downtime. This allows you to rest, manage personal tasks, or engage in quiet activities while remaining available to respond when needed. This structure offers a balance of meaningful, high-impact work and flexible personal time during shifts.

What You'll Love About Working With Us:

Flexible Overnight Structure:
Enjoy a role that allows for extended downtime between calls. When not actively responding to crises, you are able to use your time independently while remaining on-call.

Meaningful, Impactful Work:
Provide critical, real-time support to individuals in crisis, helping to stabilize situations and connect people to the resources they need.

Autonomy and Independence:
Work independently during off-hours shifts, making clinical decisions and managing responses with the support of an experienced crisis team.

Collaborative Support System:
Work independently during off-hours while remaining part of a supportive crisis team. For in-person responses, you’ll partner with an Engagement Specialist (peer) in a co-response model.

Professional Growth:
Gain valuable experience in crisis assessment, de-escalation, and community-based intervention, strengthening your clinical skills in high-impact situations.

Qualifications:

· Master’s degree in Counseling or Social Work; LPC/LSW eligible and actively pursuing licensure.

· Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) designation required.

· Demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities in mental health crisis intervention, including phone and community-based response.

· Experience with and passion for mental health crisis response services.

· Training in Verbal Intervention techniques required.

· Proficient in clinical documentation, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and work independently on documentation tasks.

· Familiarity with IM+CANS (IMCAT) assessments and completion of petitions.

· Demonstrated ability to engage clients effectively.

· Treatment skills in mental health assessment, treatment planning, and provision of individual, family, and group counseling for youth and adults.

· Ability to collaborate effectively with agency staff and community partners.

· Working familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel).

· Reliable personal vehicle required.

· Possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license and current vehicle insurance.
